Griffonit

The Griffons are originally from Belgium and were sometimes used as rat-catchers in horse stables. There are three varieties of griffons: smooth-haired petit brabancon, rough-haired red griffon bruxellois and the rough-haired black griffon belge.

So our dogs Mikki and Voitto are the same breed but of different coat and colour. To be perfectly correct, a petit brabancon is not to be addressed as a Griffon because the word Griffon means rough-haired. In other words, Petit Brabancons are the smooth-haired variants of Griffon Bruxellois or Griffon Belge. It's easy to get confused! :) In Finland all three variants are judged individually but crossings are allowed. In Finland all three versions go under the same breeding club and worldwide they are called for example griffs.
