Hirmu - HIRMU

The prince of red hair Hirmu was born in April 2008 in Olli Niemelä's home in Salla. Hirmu's name is Finnish and means horror or monster. Hirmu is a Finnish Spitz which is the National breed in Finland. Hirmu's pedigree can be found in the Finnish Kennel Club's Database.

Hirmu has grown into a eager little black-nose who has the endurance to search birds in the forest for as long as one can endure to walk. Hirmu has improved a lot since last autumn when he was still a youngster. Now he is very good in finding birds in the trees and he has a steady good bark. We have got some nice game for him this autumn, both capercaillie and black grouse. Hirmu is also very interested in elks but no shots on elk for him yet. This autumn he also barked a brown bear with cubs which was very interesting!
Hirmu has only been to one hunting trial for barking bird dogs and he was still a baby then. We got 43 points which was actually only 2 points from a 3rd prize. We will soon make a new try in the hunting trials.

Hirmu's world also consists of eating bones (there can never be enough bones according to Hirmu) and to play with Voitto. Hirmu is quite stubborn and there is no letting this fellow loose or soon half the neighbourhood is chasing him. However nowadays he actually finds his way back home... Still, Hirmu is a very fast learner of anything - he is just selective in when he wants to do something. Hirmu's best show result is from last winter when he got a Very Good. He is still a little bit airy and light but will probably develop with age. His critics can be found here.
